Tide today
Up to the coconut's eyes: mask on. The water is going out: low tide at 22:52.
Today: low tide at 22:52, high tide at 13:25.
UV index 6: high. The harsh sun is behind: the sand is fine.
The tide here
Swimming hardly works here: it is shallow, with rocks in places. At low tide the sea goes far out, and you can walk the flats along the shore for kilometres, to Ban Tai and beyond. From April to October there is at times so little water in the daytime that the sea is almost gone.
About the beach
The eastern part of the long beach on the south coast: from Ban Tai it runs without a break to the Haad Rin hills. Broad in places, with coconut palms; the sea is eating the shore, and in places it has been shored up with concrete rings. Resorts with restaurants and bars line the beach, with plenty of inexpensive places to stay; by the road are a 7-Eleven, dive shops and massage.
It is calmer than Haad Rin, and many people stay here and ride over for the parties. It faces south, towards Samui: from autumn to spring the sun sets into the sea on the right, in summer behind the shore.
Getting there
About 6 km east of Thong Sala pier on the road to Haad Rin, 10–15 minutes. Turn off the main road towards the sea by the resorts. Haad Rin is 10–15 minutes on.
Good to know
- The shallow, flat water is used for kitesurfing
- Rocks on the bottom in places: water shoes help
