About the place
The tallest and oldest tree on Koh Phangan: a majestic Dipterocarpus alatus (Yang Na) estimated at over 400 years old. It towers more than 50 metres above the surrounding canopy, with buttress roots spanning over 14 metres in circumference.
Revered by islanders as a sacred natural sanctuary, the trunk base is wrapped in traditional tricolour Buddhist ribbons and guarded by a forest spirit shrine.
