Tide today

Up to the coconut's eyes: mask on. The water is going out: low tide at 22:52.

Today: low tide at 22:52, high tide at 13:25.

UV index 6: high. The harsh sun is behind: the sand is fine.

The tide here

The sea here is shallow: you can swim only around high tide, and the rest of the time there is too little water. At low tide there are rocks underfoot.

About the beach

A chain of small sandy coves at the foot of the granite hill Khao Hin Nok, between Nai Wok and Wok Tum, below the main road. Granite boulders and mangroves divide the coves, and many boulders stand right in the water. The water is clear and emerald most of the year, and the light sand bottom makes the sea glow.

Little is built here, since the slope is hard to build on: a few resorts, from simple bungalows to the upscale Kupu Kupu; the sunbeds are mostly on hotel land. It faces west-south-west, and the sunset is the main thing: on the slope above are the AmStarDam and Top Rock bars, where people go to watch it.

Getting there

About 2.5 km north of Thong Sala pier, 3–5 minutes by road. Turn towards the sea at the entrance to the Amsterdam bar, or go down through the roadside resorts.

Good to know

  • The reef is about 100 m out, marked by big rocks sticking out of the water: good snorkelling
  • Kayaks are for hire: north to Hin Kong or out to the islet of Koh Tae Nai
  • Rocks on the bottom and at the water's edge: water shoes help
