Tide today

Up to the coconut's eyes: mask on. The water is going out: low tide at 22:52.

Today: low tide at 22:52, high tide at 13:25.

UV index 6: high. The harsh sun is behind: the sand is fine.

The tide here

The water gets deep closer to the shore than on the shallow beaches of the south and west coasts. Even so, at low tide there is little room for a swim here: swim at mid to high water, in a calm sea.

About the beach

A small, secluded bay on the east coast, north of Haad Yuan, with big boulders at both ends and jungle behind. There is not much sand, and it is coarse, gravelly in places. The main place here is The Sanctuary, a yoga and detox retreat; few places to stay, no shops, food at the resorts' cafes. The bay faces east-south-east.

Not to be confused with Haad Thian on the west coast, a different place. The next bay north is tiny Haad Wai Nam among the rocks, reached on foot by the trail or by boat.

Getting there

Usually by longtail from Haad Rin; Haad Rin is about 10 km by road from Thong Sala pier. On foot from neighbouring Haad Yuan, 10–15 minutes by the trail. There is no paved road to the bay.

Good to know

  • The north-east monsoon brings the waves: the sea is rough in November and can be wavy until mid-April; from June to October it is usually flat
  • Bring a mask and snorkel: the snorkelling is praised, and there are no shops in the bay
