Tide today
Up to the coconut's eyes: mask on. The water is going out: low tide at 22:52.
Today: low tide at 22:52, high tide at 13:25.
UV index 6: high. The harsh sun is behind: the sand is fine.
The tide here
There is no real swimming here at any tide: the lagoon behind the spit is knee-deep. At low tide the sea goes far out and leaves a wide, shallow flat.
About the beach
A small bay just north of Thong Sala pier, across the river: the beach nearest town. In front of it runs a long sand spit ending in an islet, and behind the spit is a calm, very shallow lagoon with almost no waves. Resorts line the shore; it is quiet, with families with small children and photographers.
It faces south-west, towards the sunset; for part of the year the sun goes down behind the islets off Thong Sala.
Getting there
About 1.5 km from Thong Sala pier: north across the river from town, a ten-minute walk. There is parking.
Good to know
- The reef is about 80 m out: swim or kayak to it in a calm sea, nearer high tide
- Kayaks and SUPs are for hire; the classic trip is out to Koh Tae Nai, the islet off Thong Sala
- Good for small children: the lagoon is calm and knee-deep
