The tide here
At low tide the sea pulls back tens of metres, the beach becomes very wide and the water too shallow to swim: it is a few minutes' walk to depth. Swim nearer high tide. In spring and early summer, roughly March to June, the water stays low for much of the day.
About the beach
Srithanu village's beach on the west coast: a gentle arc of fine light sand, some 250–300 m long, south of Zen Beach. Quiet, few people, no music in the daytime. Bungalows and resorts line the shore; the sunbeds belong to the resorts and cafes. It faces west-south-west, and the sun sets into the sea.
Behind the beach is the village, the island's centre of yoga, vegan food and all things esoteric: yoga centres, vegetarian cafes, a 7-Eleven and a Tops Daily.
Getting there
About 8 km from Thong Sala pier. A stream cuts the beach off from the village: leave the scooter by the road and cross on the resorts' footbridges, such as Phangan Cove's or Nice Sea Resort's.
Good to know
- The sea is calm and the entry gentle: good for small children

- At low tide you can walk along the shore to Zen Beach for the sunset
