Tide today

Waist-deep on the coconut. The water is going out: low tide at 20:47.

Today: low tide at 20:47, high tide at 12:26.

UV index 1: low. The harsh sun is behind: the sand is fine.

The tide here

It gets deep within a couple of steps, so you can swim at low tide too, unlike the flat west and south coasts.

About the beach

A small cove, some two hundred metres, on the east coast below the Than Sadet waterfalls. The stream from the falls splits the beach in two, and the cascades are a short walk upstream. The sand is coarse and pebbly, hard on bare feet; big boulders at both ends.

Few people; one or two small cafes and a few simple bungalows on the slopes. It faces east, to the sunrise. Next door, a short walk over a footbridge, is the even quieter Haad Thong Reng, where the swimming is poorer.

Getting there

About 16–17 km from Thong Sala: north from Ban Tai on the cross-island road, then east down to the park. The road is concrete and asphalt now as far as a car park by the beach, then a few minutes on foot; some stretches are steep.

Good to know

  • Entry to the national park area is 100 baht a person, cash, by day (roughly 8:30 to 4–4:30 pm)
  • The waves depend on the weather and can be bigger than on the west coast: stay out in a storm and in the monsoon
  • Snorkelling is modest: no reef in the bay, a little life by the rocks at the ends
  • Pebbles in the first steps into the water: water shoes help
