About the place

The island's main gateway by sea. Lomprayah and Seatran Discovery catamarans come in from Samui, Koh Tao and the mainland (Donsak and Surat Thani); Raja ferries from Donsak; Songserm boats from Samui and Koh Tao. Only Raja carries cars and scooters.

Songserm uses its own pier a couple of hundred metres north of the main one. The pier has the operators' ticket offices and a waiting area, and songthaews, the island's taxis, wait at the exit.

Getting there

The pier is in the centre of Thong Sala, on the waterfront. The Phantip and Walking Street markets are a 5–10 minute walk away.

Good to know

  • Travelling with Songserm, check your ticket for the pier: the company has its own, further north
  • The Raja ferry from Donsak takes about 2.5 hours
  • Departures from the island are on 84280's ferries page
