The beach is steep, so the low tide hardly matters: a strip of sand about two metres wide comes out, and swimming depth is some ten metres from the shore.
About the beach
A cove on the north coast between steep headlands, one of the most secluded beaches on the island. Its Thai name is Haad Khuat (หาดขวด), "bottle beach". The sand is soft and light, with no coral or rocks where you swim; rocks at the eastern end.
A few simple bungalow resorts with restaurants, bars and massage stand on the shore. There is no ATM, it is cash only, and no proper shop. Quiet, often almost empty.
Getting there
By boat is easiest. Longtails run from Chaloklum (the Taxi Boat hut by the pier) and from the eastern end of Haad Khom: 15–20 minutes, most often 150 baht a person one way. A boat leaves once about four people are aboard; the last ones go around 5 pm.
There is no paved road: the last three kilometres or so are a steep, rutted dirt track, 4x4 only, with signs warning scooters off, and dangerous after rain. Resorts fetch guests by pick-up from the car park at the top. On foot, from Haad Khom: through the jungle about 2 km, an hour to an hour and a half; along the coast about 2.5 km, two to three hours. The trails are steep, with no water on the way.
Good to know
- Bring cash: there is no ATM
- Snorkelling is modest: a little by the rocks at the ends, more at the eastern one
- Boats land right on the beach: swim away from them
- In the monsoon boats run only in a calm sea: bad weather can keep you here a day or two
- The viewpoint trail is steep and unfenced
