The bottom slopes very gently: the water stays shallow far out, which suits small children, while a proper swim means walking out. At low tide it gets shallower still, like the whole west coast.
About the beach
A quiet beach on the west coast, just past Srithanu on the road north. Resorts and bungalows take the whole shore: a few cafes and massage huts by the water, sunbeds only at the resorts, no shops on the beach. The crowd is local: resort guests and neighbours.
It faces west, with the sunset right over the sea. On the rocks at the southern end stands Pirates Bar, built like a wooden ship, one of the places people go to for the sunset.
Getting there
About 8–9 km from Thong Sala on the main road north, right after Srithanu. The beach hides behind a palm grove with no big signs; you reach it through the resorts' grounds.
Good to know
- The reef is 100–150 m out; snorkelling is good on calm days
- In the afternoon the sun is straight in your face, and shade is scarce in places
