Tide today
Knee-deep on the coconut. The water is going out: low tide at 20:47.
Today: low tide at 20:47, high tide at 12:26.
The tide here
At low tide the water is shallow far out: fine for a paddle, not for a proper swim. At high tide the sand almost disappears, and in places the water reaches the concrete wall.
About the beach
Haad Rin's western beach, also called Sunset Beach, across the village from the Full Moon beach, a 5–10 minute walk. A long narrow strip of about 1.4 km: the third nearest the pier is built up, further on it is quieter, with palms. Guesthouses, bars, restaurants.
It faces south-west, and the sun sets into the sea towards Samui. On Full Moon night it is far quieter than the main beach, but not silent: the music carries. At the south-eastern end is the Haad Rin Queen pier, where the ferries from Samui land.
Getting there
About 10 km from Thong Sala pier by the same steep hill road as to Haad Rin. The ferries from Samui come straight here, to the Haad Rin Queen pier.
Good to know
- When easterlies whip up Sunrise Beach, it is calm here: the wind blows offshore
- Rocks and bits of coral on the bottom in places: water shoes help
- For much of the year the sea washes litter up on this shore
