Tide today
Knee-deep on the coconut. The water is going out: low tide at 20:47.
Today: low tide at 20:47, high tide at 12:26.
The tide here
At low tide it is too shallow to swim by the shore: the water goes far out, and you have to walk, or swim beyond the reef, to find depth. People swim here mostly at high tide.
About the beach
A beach in the north-west: five or six hundred metres of soft white sand. Quiet and family-friendly, with fewer people than Haad Yao next door. Resorts, restaurants, a couple of bars and massage line the shore; the restaurants have sunbeds, the palms give shade. There is no nightlife on the beach itself. It is also called Pirates Beach.
It faces north-west: in summer the sun sets into the sea, in winter behind the headland on the left.
Getting there
About 11 km from Thong Sala pier, 20–30 minutes by scooter, with a short descent at the end. Parking is free at the beach entrance; there is no big car park, so people park by the resorts or on the main road.
Good to know
- Good snorkelling: corals and fish on the reef 80–100 m out and around the rocks at either end; best at high tide on a calm day
- Sandy entry in the middle, rocks towards the ends; bits of dead coral in the sand, so water shoes help
