About the beach
A small beach on Koh Phangan’s west coast, in Srithanu. Its hour is sunset: the neighbourhood gathers here in the evening, drums, acro yoga, slackline and sometimes fire appear on the sand, and the sun goes straight into the sea. Half an hour after it, the beach is still full.
It is small: end to end in a few minutes. No sunbeds; the one business is a bar on the sand. By day it is quiet.
Getting there
From Thong Sala on the Srithanu road, about six kilometres; on the main road look for the Zen Beach and Grasshopper signs. A gravel road leads to the car park by the beach; parking is free, and there is no driving onto the sand. From the car park it is a three to five minute walk.
Taxis do not wait at the beach: the main road is a ten-minute walk. After sunset a queue of scooters forms at the exit, so come early and park facing out.
Good to know
- Swimming depends on the tide: shallow and rocky at low tide, the sand almost gone at high tide. The deepest water is on the right as you face the sea
- Water shoes help: there are rocks
- No showers; toilets are at the bar
- Take what you brought: bottles, butts, glass. People walk barefoot here
- Drums and fire are not every evening: see what’s on below
