Tide today

Waist-deep on the coconut. The water is going out: low tide at 20:47.

Today: low tide at 20:47, high tide at 12:26.

UV index 1: low. The harsh sun is behind: the sand is fine.

The tide here

At low tide the water goes far out: it is shallow by the shore, rocks and coral show, and it is a long walk to swimming depth. Swim at or near high tide. At high tide the beach narrows instead, and in places the sand almost disappears.

About the beach

A long arc of light sand on the west coast, the most built-up beach on this side of the island. Along the water: resorts, restaurants and bars, sunbeds and umbrellas, massage, kayak and SUP rental, dive shops; behind the beach, on the main road, cafes and a 7-Eleven. Palms give shade.

It faces west, and the sun sets straight into the sea. Lively, but far calmer than Haad Rin.

Getting there

About 10 km north of Thong Sala pier along the west coast's main road, 15–30 minutes by scooter. The road is paved, with no descent to the sand. Parking is free, along the road in the village: plenty of room for scooters, less for cars.

Songthaews rarely run along the west coast, and taxis cost more in the evening.

Good to know

  • The water is deepest at the northern end: on the right as you face the sea
  • The reef is 300–400 m out: snorkel along its edge and around the rocks at either end of the beach, best near high tide
  • From October to early December the sea here can be murky and choppy; it is calmer and clearer from mid-December to April
