Tide today
Waist-deep on the coconut. The water is going out: low tide at 20:47.
Today: low tide at 20:47, high tide at 12:26.
UV index 1: low. The harsh sun is behind: the sand is fine.
The tide here
The low tide is mild here: the water drops back only a little, and swimming depth is a few steps out. You can swim at any tide: Noi minds the tide less than the west coast and Yai next door.
About the beach
The northern and smaller of Thong Nai Pan's two bays in the island's north-east, about 600 metres of sand. It faces east: a sunrise beach, with no sunset over the sea. The sand is clean, with no coral or rocks where you swim; rocks only at the ends of the bay.
This is the livelier, pricier side: Anantara Rasananda, Buri Rasa, Santhiya and Panviman on the shore, bars and restaurants on the sand, and in the village behind it cafes, shops, ATMs and scooter rental. Busy by day, quiet at night.
Getting there
About 18 km from Thong Sala, via Ban Kai and on along the cross-island road north, 30–45 minutes by scooter. The road is paved all the way now, but it winds, with steep climbs and descents; slippery after rain, so take it slowly if you are new to scooters.
There is no regular cheap transport: a taxi or songthaew from the pier.
Good to know
- Snorkelling is modest: small fish by the rocks at the ends, no reef in the bay
- Little shade in the middle at noon; in the afternoon the sun drops behind the hills
- In the north-east monsoon, November to mid-December, there are waves and red-flag days
- A path over the headland by Panviman leads to Thong Nai Pan Yai, about twenty minutes on foot; the gate is private, open roughly 6 am to 6 pm
